What is the AED Project?
The provincial AED registry, developed in 2015 by the Jacques de Champlain Foundation and its collaborators, aims to document information about all the AEDs located in public places in Quebec. This information includes the location of the AED, a way to get in contact with the person responsible for the AED, as well as the expiration date of certain components like batteries and electrodes. All this information is registered and continuously updated in the provincial registry. The data stored in the Foundation’s registry is saved securely and in no event will be disclosed to third parties.
“AED - Quebec” Mobile Application
A mobile application was developed by the Jacques de Champlain Foundation and can be downloaded on both Android and Apple devices. This application allows its users to locate the nearest AED and have access to vital information about CPR. Moreover, the application makes it possible to register a new AED in the Foundation’s registry.
Vision of the AED project
The AED project, combining both the mobile application and the provincial registry, aims to increase survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest by optimizing the access to AEDs that are already in public places. In fact, these resources will allow bystanders to retrieve the nearest AED in order to minimize the delay before defibrillation during a cardiac arrest.
Spread the word
Please help us spread the word about the “AED Quebec“ application by showing it to your friends and colleagues. Encourage the people you know to download the application on their smartphones and enter AEDs in the registry. Please note that only defibrillators located in publicly accessible locations can be included in the Foundation’s registry.
Register an AED and save a life!
Your help is needed to register AEDs in the Jacques de Champlain Foundation’s provincial registry. The process is very simple; it involves downloading the “AED - Quebec” application, pressing on the “Register an AED” icon (in the More section) and entering the information about your AED.
If you have information concerning many AEDs and would like assistance with the registration process, please contact the AED Project team by e-mail at dea@jacquesdechamplain.com or by phone at 1-877-548-3DEA (3332).
Advantages of registering your AED
- Automated reminders are sent 3 months before the expiration date of your electrodes and batteries. The responsibility to maintain the AED and to purchase new components always remains that of the owner.
- Annual updates and reminders provided by the registry encourage those in charge of the AEDs to optimize the location of their AED, and restate the importance of CPR training.
- By participating in the AED project, you are contributing to the increase in response efficiency for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Who knows? One day your AED may save a life!
